                    since 2006

Plankton and Benthos Research is the joint journal of the Plankton Society of Japan (http://www.plankton.jp/) and the
Japanese Association of Benthology (http://www.benthos-research.info/). The journal publishes quarterly original
papers, reviews and notes dealing with any aspect of the biology and ecology of plankton and benthic organisms and
their interactions with the environment in any aquatic system, and is open to all scientists around the world. For
information regarding manuscript preparation, see the inside back cover.

dealing with any aspect of the biology and ecology of plankton and benthic organisms and their interactions with the
environment in any aquatic system, and is open to all scientists around the world. Submission of a paper is held to
imply that it represents an original contribution not previously published and that it is not being considered elsewhere.

Submission of Manuscript: Manuscripts (original and two photocopies) should be submitted to the Editor-in-Chief of

the Plankton Society of Japan or the Japanese Association of Benthology.

more than 40 letters. In full-length papers, the sequence of material should be: Abstract (page 2, not exceeding 250
words, followed by up to five key words), text (from page 3, including Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results,
Discussion and Acknowledgments), References, Tables, Figure Legends and Figures. Notes should notexceed 4 printed
pages, and the introduction, methods, results and discussion should be presented in a single section without headings;
Acknowledgments and References should be as in full-length papers. All scientific names of genera and lower categories
must be underlined to appear in italics. The complete scientific name (Genus, species and authority) should be given for
every organism the first time it is mentioned (excluding the Abstract). Generic names should be spelt out when first
appearing in each headed section and at the beginning of sentences. Abbreviate 'Figure(s)' as 'Fig(s)'. except at the
beginning of sentences when it should be spelt in full. Use metric system, preferably the System International (SI),
units and symbols. References in the text should be written as follows: Abe (1986) for single author, Sato & Saito
(1980) or (Sato & Saito 1980) for two authors, and Sato et al. (1980) or (Sato et al. 1980) for more than two
authors. In References, all published articles referred to in the text should be listed alphabetically and chronologically.

Editor-in-Chief within 3 days of receipt. Authors will be charged for any extensive changes made to the proof. Where
the corresponding author is a current member of the Plankton Society of Japan and the Japanese Association of
Benthology, the cost of the first 10 printed pages of a paper will be waived; excess costs (JPY 7,000 per page) will
be charged to the authors. Non-member authors will be charged full printing costs (JPY 5,000 per page for first
5 pages; JPY 9,000 for additional pages). Authors should pay the costs of printing special items such as color
